Buying A Recorder Musical Instrument

Recorders are musical instruments that were originally made of wood, but today recorders made of resin are available.Resin recorders are moderately priced and robust, with a solid sound and sensation during play. They can also be washed with neutral detergent, and have the advantage of relatively straightforward maintenance, although water droplets can clog the windway (airway) because these instruments do not absorb moisture. If this occurs, lightly tap just above the window, and blow forcefully to force out the droplets of water. If doing this during a performance, take care to ensure the sound of blowing cannot be heard. It is possible to dislodge and reduce moisture that has adhered to the inside of the instrument by sucking just a little.

The ABS resin used for Yamaha resin recorders has a high ratio of butadiene, giving these instruments excellent impact resistance.Their characteristic features include an exceptional wood-like feel during play, a clear timbre, and a perfect pitch, achieved by using the understanding developed through the manufacture of wooden recorders. With 444 Hz used as a reference pitch for A, the pitch can be tuned by adjusting the extension of the head joint, allowing the recorder to be tuned to participate in an ensemble with other musical instruments.

The distinctive, rich tone of a wooden recorder is not generally matched by a resin recorder, and in order to get the most enjoyment from performances it may be a good idea to consider using a wooden recorder. Each has its own character, and the nature of the sound also varies, so if possible it is better to choose an instrument together with a specialist or music teacher who can demonstrate the sound of the instrument for you.

One of the largest product areas at West Music is recorders for the music classroom. We sell all sorts, from the tiny Garklein to the impressive Bass. However, the most popular has been (and will probably always be) the Soprano. Schools teach recorder in elementary school as a bridge to a variety of musical skills: breathing, finger coordination, music literacy, teamwork, performance skills, and more.

The recorder is also one of the most affordable classroom instruments, which adds to its appeal. West Music realizes that teachers need to find quality instruments at an affordable price point, so we created recorder classroom sets of our most popular models. Sets are available in 25, 50, or 100 pieces. The more you buy, the more you save!

All children learn the recorder at St Mary's. There is no requirement for children to buy their own to begin with when learning in class. We have a year group set of recorders and children do not share instruments.

Pupils in years 5 and 6 have the opportunity to learn the rest of the recorder family. These lessons are free of charge and a school instrument is available during lessons. However, should you wish to buy them an instrument I would buy one from ebay as they are so much cheaper! All they need is top shelf dishwasher or a good hot soapy wash in the sink and they are good as new. They are often unused and you can save yourself 20+

There is a wide range of plastic instruments. The extra cost of a better one is money well spent. We recommend the Yamaha plastic recorders, which feature good intonation and easy playability. Yamaha plastic recorder models include soprano, alto, tenor and bass, as shown below.Alto Recorder: the Yamaha model YRA-312BII, is shown below. This has an imitation woodgrain finish, and the classic baroque recorder profile. More importantly, the intonation is good, the instrument responds evenly from the lowest to the highest notes.

Soprano Recorder: the Yamaha model YRS-312B III shown below is recommended. Similar to the Yamaha plastic alto, this instrument is reliable across the entire range. The lessons on this site can be done on these instruments, which are also good enough to be used with recorder groups and workshops. 041b061a72
